Spanish Colonies

First Question: What was Spains most valuable colony in the New World

Second: what colonies do you think Spain coudve kept after napoleonic wars?

I was thinking Mexico would probably be the most valuable, but Peru would probably be the most likely to be kept

Wouldnt a Spain with more colonies being kept in the New World than OTL be in a beter postion then?

I'm not really sure about value, but I'm pretty sure Mexico lost most of its value by 1815.

Spain was so wrecked economically and diplomatically by the end of the Nappy Wars that keeping any New World colony would be expensive in both capital and military, and would definitely not have Spain in a better position post war.

I read about a POD in the mid 19th Century that might allow Spain to win its reconquest of Peru and Chile (18...50s?), but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. In that case, if Spain is more of a world player coming up to 1900, we might see successful Spanish colonial adventures elsewhere, a less humiliating Spanish-American War (if it isn't butterflied away) and Spain as a more important player coming up to the 20th Century.

well, IIRC it was more of a single protected cruiser shooting at some Chilean and Peruvian forts, making a lot of noise and thats all ...

And they took some small islands, abandoned btw, and they left them themselves soon so ...
