Spanish Civil war ends with two Spains.

I was wondering, was there any chance that the Spanish civil war could have ended with both sides Holding a part of Spain but unable to to have a total victory? If so how would that effect world war II?

Negrin, president of the Republic, followed the strategy of resisting until the start of the European conflict.

If Europe goes to war, before the civil war is over then France is almost certain to get involved, considering the military support that Franco got from the Axis and Britain will probably follow if only out of fear of Gibraltar being threatened.

A Nazi occupation of Spain is likely to be the short-term consequence with democracy or the monarchy being restored towards the end of WWII, although the sorry state of the country and the political class would make things mightily difficult.

The problem is that this not only virtually guarantees that Hitler and Mussolini will successfully occupy Spain(and possibly Portugal) but makes the fall of Gibralter nearly certain.

Then there's the question of whether Malta can be held if no supplies can from points west.

And whether the US and UK can land in North Africa in late 1942 given powerful Luftwaffe and U-boat contingents on the spot, possibly reinforced by destroyers and even cruisers. Assuming that an Axis sweeping the Med doesn't take another year to break the British before invading the USSR.
