Spanish American War, 1818

How close did the United States come to war with Spain after Andrew Jackson's invasion of Florida, and execution of British Agents? If war was declared, how might the war play out? How would the British respond to this?

I don't think it was a very likely event, mainly because Spain was rapped up in rebellions in more profittable colonies, and by 1818, Spain was a shadow of its former self, so a war might actually go in America's favor.

It's not likely to happen, and if it does, Spain probably won't achieve its goals. Remember that this just a few years after the Napoleonic Wars ravaged Spain, Bolivar is running wild in New Granada, and Spain has a civil war on the horizon.
