Spandau jail stayed in use into the 1980s

In OTL Spandau was only used for a small number of 'major' war criminals and famously for a long time had only one prisoner.

I believe that in the early 1950s a lot of Nazis were released early by the West Germans. I do not know the details in the East. My guess is that singifant former Nazis were either cooopted if they seemed useful or exectuted in the "German Demcractic Republic.

However I would guess that there must have been a large number of people who deserved life without parole for their roles in the Third Reich.

WI Spandau kept those guys inside.

What would be the conseqnences for the Cold War?

How many people who might have been in jail played significant roles in Post War Germany?

Why do you think people deserve life without parole? I doubt they are going to repeat offend.

I am not normally deeply into punishement but genocide and the cruelty involved in ther Nazi era meant that some severe punishment was needed.

At the time of course the other option was brief imprisoment ending with execution.
