The Muslim conquest beginning in 711 is completed, with the Christian-Muslim border being the Pyrenees mountains. Does the reconquista even occur now? Perhaps a small Christian state forms as a result of Charlemagne's incursions into northern Spain, or the result of a revolt during a period of Muslim weakness?

Does this Muslim expansion include Northern Galicia/Northwest Spain or Aquitaine, which might otherwise provide a refuge for Iberian clerics?

A small Basque state that persists even until the 20th Century becomes a definite possibility. Maybe Basque expansion westward into Cantabria.

I'm pretty sure that if Iberia was Muslim, Louis IX's attempt at an Albigensian Crusade would result in the Cathar lords of Lang'd'Oc converting to Islam and becoming part of the Caliphate. After all, the Cathars believed pretty much the same way as did the Bogomils and that is what the Bogomils did in Albania and Bosnia. And the Caliphate would protect Lang'deOc against France, shutting down Marseilles as an avenue for subsequent Crusades to Outremer. For Louis, a Crusade against hersey would suddenly turn into a crusade to save France:eek:. Yes, this will make a very good timeline indeed!

It's possible it actually was. That is Asturias was essentially conquered and vassalized like Theudemir's region. It just successfully revolted a short while later. If you want this to happen you have to come up with reasons they 1) don't rebel successfully in the first 50 years 2) the political stability in Al-Andalus exists so that they can't successfully rebel in the first 50 years. After about 50 years most of the gothic nobility were either converted or removed in favor of Muslims so the leadership nucleus of potential military opposition to Islamic rule is gone.

So once again, the political problems are what you need to solve.
