If Spain were to join the axis in, say October 1940, would they be more of a help or a hindrance to the axis?
Would the advantages of attacking Gibraltar outweigh the disadvantages of the country being devastated and having a 2nd rate (though experienced I suppose) military?
And if Turkey were to join the allies (also in October 1940) how much of a help would they be? Another front has just opened which Britain may have to pour troops into. And Turkey's army isn't all that great either. Then again, it's less axis troops for other fronts.
