I was wondering about a Soviet occupied Western Europe specifically Germany.
Let's say the Soviet Union manages to beat Germany in world war II before the western allies can occupy most of Europe. How is not really important, maybe D-Day fails or D-day is postponed because of the weather, etc. The soviet union manages to capture all of Germany and maybe some other parts (Denmark, Scandinavia, Low countries, maybe northern France and northern Italy).

What would the soviet union do with Germany? Just puppetize all of it? Germany would still remain a country with a lot of potential. Even with a Communist government it could still start to dominate the continent and maybe even the soviet union self. It seems to me that the soviet union would try to prevent that at all cost.

Would it just split up Germany? For example an independent Austria, Bavaria, Eastern Germany/Brandenburg, Saxony, Westphalia, etc. Would it give parts to other (allied) nations, like it did with Poland? Giving Schleswig-Holstein to (a possibly communist) Denmark, northwestern Germany to the Netherlands, etc.
