Soviets invade Romania after Czechoslovakia.

Romania was vehemently critical of the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia,and as consequence the Soviets and Bulgarians began amassing more troops on the Romanian border,also the Romanian regime used this as a propagandistic move,prompting thousands of people to join the Patriotic Guards.
Let's say that the conflict escalates a bit more and the Warsaw Pact invades Romania,what could the effects of this move be?

Would the Soviets really have been willing to escalate that much? The crushing of Prague Spring alone was rather bad for their PR, to say the least...

All the same, interesting (in the Chinese sense) if that happens...

Causescu criticised CS invasion because he feared he would be next.

Actually, I heard one of my professors (and I'm studying political science, so she should know) say that the reason he criticized the invasion is that he wasn't invited.

He criticised the invasion because:
a) he could (the Soviets knew it was all just a damp fart);
b) he really needed the money from gullible Westerners who bought the whole dissident line (many of the Communist-era factories were built with Western funds).

When I read the 'Thread' I thought it was a WW" WI !!

That is:- what if the Russians invaded Roumania, after Germany invaded Czechoslovakia!?

It would have given Hitler apoplexy earlier worrying about his fuel supply!
