Soviets don't declare war on Japan near end of WWII

As the title says, what if the Soviet Union didn't go to war with Japan near the end of WWII? How would east Asia look different without Soviet involvement?

What PODs would be necessary for the Soviets not to get involved? Perhaps Germany lasting a few more months into the summer is one possibility.

Well, if the generals in the East are not strangled by Hitler's "No Retreat" orders, then the massive casualties they suffered throughout the war would be drastically reduced. So yes, a delayed end of the war is possible.

You still have the two A-Bombs, but Russia's DoW was pretty shocking as well, if not on such a scale. With Russia still neutral, the Japanese might be able to con themselves into thinking they can negociate through the Soviets. That means you can kiss Yokohama, Kokura, and possibly Osaka (Only Kyoto and Tokyo were on the don't touch list) goodbye before the Japanese yield to reality. Not good. About the only meager good out of this is the Japanese will get to keep the "Four Islands" (The Kuriles), the ancestral burial grounds of Japan.
