Soviet Two Front war

WWIII, assuming NATO attacks Soviet forces in the trans-Caucasus and/or the allies invade either Central Asia (through Iran/Pakistan), Russian Manchuria (through Japan, Korea, and possibly Chinese Manchuria) or the Russian Far East (from Alaska).

The battle of Kalakadak Gohl or whatever its called could become more of a mild skirmish than OTL. Less armor, less people and neither side decides to push the issue.

This leads to some mild setbacks in Soviet warfare policy (the only other modern experience they will get before WW2 in large scale warfare would be against Finland). Zhukov's career might not take off as much as OTL. But the big thing would be that Japan doesn't get kicked, so perhaps they pump a few divisions into Russia even if its just to respect their treaty with Germany.

I thought the Great Patriotic War only refers to the Eastern Front?

You could better argue that the Russians organized the theatre in terms of Fronts. According to wikipedia the Great Patriotic war was organized into 40 Fronts. The mobile aspect of WWII made it so there was no single Front but numerous deep organizations.

Even though it doesn't end it's hard to describe a front stretching from the Baltic to Black Seas as only the one front. Even if so the Continuation War could be seen as a separate front, even if it did link up with the main Axis line for over two years. The invasion of northern Iran could probably count as well, despite being a fairly quick conflict.

When I was playing hearts of Iron as Germany, I would bring Turkey, Afghanistan and Iran into the war with me along with Spain and Portugal. More of a broader Eastern front more than anything.
