Soviet "sealion" of Britain

Too many threads and movies about Nazis take over Britain during WW2. What about the Soviets in the Cold war which turns hot?

useful info

Any good scenario?

If the Cold War goes hot, the Soviets either won't be able to reach London, or Britain will be a nuclear mess that no one would want to rebuild. So a Soviet sealion suffers the same problems as a German one.

In a Cold War gone hot scenario London won't be there for the Soviets to occupy and indeed neither will Moscow for that matter.
The first link manages to mention two myths in it - firstly Hollywood style EMP and secondly the British Strategic St**m R***rve (as a member of Sub-Brit I have to write it like that :D). It also contains a ASB scenario for a Soviet invasion of the UK, so well done to the bloke that wrote it. :D
To disect the scenario the Soviets disable British defences using EMP (which wouldn't work because military electronics are protected against it) and then the Brits race them to Edinburgh in a loco that doesn't exist from a stockpile that doesn't exist. :p

If the St**m R***rve existed we would have either found the locos by now, or the documents mentioning it would have come to light. Hundreds of steam locos just can't vanish into thin air and leave no trace. :p
In any case the diesel locos designed and built in the '50s and '60s, such as the 20s, 37s and 47s, would work well enough post nuclear strike.

A Cold War that goes hot would have gone nuclear by the time Soviet forces get to the Channel (if they make it that far). That was NATO and American policy, as I understand it. London would likely be a radioactive ruin by that point, as would many sites on all sides, but especially in Europe. I'm thinking the Soviets would be far too busy at that point to even attempt an invasion.

Party pooper. :p Of course, the objection I had to the scenario was that even if the Reserve were real, locomotives are useless if the rail networks they run on, especially the hubs around recently-nuked urban centers, are destroyed. Maybe the survivors might get some use out of them later, but strategically such a Reserve would be nigh-useless.

Steam locos need a lot of support infrastucture - coaling and watering points - and a lot of looking after in general. Surviving diesels would be of more use and easier to maintain, see the main P&S thread for a train being used post strike.
