Soviet-Japanese War in 1939

What if, instead of a mere border clash, Japan goes for an all out war with the USSR in 1939?

I think FDR would have a hard time embargoing Japan because the USA hated the USSR and would have loved for this to happen. No Pearl harbor in this time line, no US involvement in WWII.

Also, with the USSR fighting in the Far East, wouldn't Hitler want to attack from the west as soon as possible? If Japan can hang on for 2 years, the USSR will be toast.

Japan would get curbstomped

Japan was powerful because it foucosed its limited industrial base and cash to building there navy.

Now, I don't see how the out of date Japanese army with its rather inefficient tactics, out of date equipment(though some of there tanks in 1939 were pretty good), craptacular airpower, and flawed doctrine

Some of the Japanese tactics such as Banzi charges and bombings and Infantry infiltration tatics would be very ineffective aganist the soviets as they developed most of those tactics themselves The Soviets had More tanks(and knew how to use them effectively too) equal to better aircraft, and much better artillery. The only place the Japanese may actually surpass the Russians is infantry, though by a small margin. The Japanese infantry had higher morale and was alot more dedicated, and had about techical parity with the russian infantry though most importantly, the Japanese had much MORE grunts than the russians since they weren't fighting a war 5 time zones away from their industrial base

You must remember that the soviets basically destroyed the German Military as a fighting force

Think what they would do to Japans

And the germans were barely able to take France, do you really think that when there fighting in Poland and France there gonna have near the supplies and men and Material to take on the worlds biggest, and arguably one of the best equipped armies in the world

Just lousy tactics.

Anyways, Japan would get beaten unless it could scroungue up some allies to attack a flank.

If Canada were to stage a few raids into the USSR with American consent then we might see Japan having a chance. However Canada would need to have some reason to want the Arctic nearly all to itself. Maybe some crazy amount of gold.
