Soviet-German War

Yes. What I said is that if in OTL the french, being at war, did not attack, why should they do so in a TTL when they have not declared war? (which is the premise of TTL)

The French didn't attack in 1939 because they couldn't do it. It took them a long time to mobilize. Which is why the Phoney War did not worry Hitler. He had plenty of time to finish Poland.

But there's is no way he could finish the Soviet Union nearly as quickly. A fully mobilized France and Britain would defeat a Germany occupied with a Soviet war.

The Germans of that era (not just Hitler) HATED the French for the Versailles Treaty. Hitler took special delight in making the French surrender in the same railcar the Germans signed armastice in 1918. It's not a matter of France wanting to attack Germany, but the other way around. For Germany to defeat the Soviet Union, it HAD to secure its Western front first.

Why on Earth would Britain or France enter the war to protect the USSR?

As I posted earlier The French Communist party would no doubt have pushed for war with Hitler but by then the Right would be firmly in power in France.
The largest Right Wing party in
France the French Social Party which looked set to win the 1940 elections was funded by Mussolini by the way.

As for Britain if Chamberlain offered no Polish guarantee as in this scenario he certainly wouldn’t have offered a Soviet guarantee.

Britain and France have no intention of saving the Soviets. They want the Germans and Soviets to finish eachother off. Whoever is still standing in the end is going to get clubbered by the British and French alliance.

Just the same, the Soviets would invade Germany in the event of a dragged out Franco-German war, not to save France but to dominate Europe. However no one expected the French to lose so quickly and the Soviets were no where near ready. It's a game of musical chairs in which whoever goes to war last wins it all. In OTL this was the United States.

I'm afraid that history should tell you are wrong. If you were right, the same reasoning you apply to France and Britain should have applied to Britain and the USA in 1941. Instead, they very greatly helped one of the two combatants, the less dangerous one.

As to the balance of forces between France+Britain and the combined strength of Germany, the USSR, and the Eastern European countries, you'd have the following (I'm assuming the Germans win, but the reverse wouldn't change things much):
Manpower: Axis wins.
Combat experience and sound combined-arms doctrine: Axis wins.
Oil production: Axis wins.
Steel production: Axis wins.
Foodstuffs production: Axis wins.

Assuming it's the Germans and not the Soviets who win, you can add to their array the Italians and the Japanese forces and output. Maybe the Axis forces would be exhausted after a very costly victory. Fine, they just need to hold out and delay the French and British offensive, distract them with those secondary theaters (Africa, the Far East) and outproduce them.
The French and British get clobbered, not viceversa, if they are alone. One has to hope the USA would join in, which they really should do if the Japanese are recruited on the other side.

I'd like to point out that the balance of production and manpower of the USA joining with the BCE and the USSR against the Axis is not the same as the one described above. That may have more bearing on the outcome than just a matter of timing the entry in war.

After the German victory over the USSR by say 1943/4 they still would have no intention of attacking the British Empire.
Hitler even offered to defend the British Empire with German troops if under threat.
France would likely be save too.
