Soviet Collapse After World War II

My thought is either: Stalin makes some bad decisions in 1941-42 allowing the nazis a better position in 1943-44.

..Or Stalins government collapses, crippling the Red Armys defense. The USSR survives but Germany gains more territory & the Red Army is worse off.

Germany does eventually lose, but the USSR ends the war with the Red Army occupying far less territory, its industry and work force in far worse shape, non Communist governments in central Europe & the Baltics, and perhaps non communist governments in White Russia or the Urkraine. no occupation of Manchuria or Korea.

IMHO for all of his many evil faults, Stalin was the glue that held the USSR together during WWII. If Stalin dies during the war, say in 1944 or so, I think the result will be the Allies still win. May take longer, cost more blood maybe see nukes in Germany. Certainly the Red Army is nowhere near as far west as OTL. Without the loot from Germany/eastern Europe, also the probably greater casualties of an eastern front for them, things may fall apart in the USSR. Not likely..but...

It would take some mind numbing incompetence if things went otl and then after victory the ussr collapses ..

If Stalin dies during the war .. That might be different ... However that being said .. Depends when where why and how ..

And who takes over .. During a full out war I don't see much time for a power struggle and if the soviets are Doing bad then I think a power struggle will be quick..

Best bet and it's a stretch ... A meteor explodes over Moscow on May 9th
