South Wins War, new Party

The South wins the Civil War. What New/Old Party rises up from the (Presumed) ashes of the now-vilified Republican Party to combat the Democratic Party?

If the Confederacy had emerged from the war as an independent nation, I believe that political parties would have formed along the lines of pro-Davis and anti-Davis factions.

i don't know that the Republicans would fail, i mean the Dems didn't fail in OTL even though most of it's members were mostly pro-south. any way, the Dems will be more weakened, because most of the members are gone into the CSA.

Perhaps the Whig Party revives? It was the major party pre-ACW, after all.

Or perhaps a major revanchist reconquer-the-South party, though I doubt that'd be popular, especially if the ACW is as bloody as OTL, and the war ends with the election of anti-war Democrats to the White House... I suppose it depends.

why not? or the blacks, or the old stand by THE JEWS! :p

Well, if you will keep poisoning wells....;)

On topic... might we see a surge in states rights sentiment in face of the evident failure of the central government counter-poised by centralising nationalists (largely but not exclusively ex-republicans)? For me the big question is whether there could be a secessionist movement on the West Coast, leading to an indepemdent state under British patronage.

Whatever happens, within 20 years the North would become a hot-bed of class politics leading to a mass Socialist or possibly Anarcho-Syndicalist movement, what happens then depends on what attitude the government takes to this workers movement. Second American revolution in 1905?
