1929: Noburo Ofuji creates the Sonic The Hedgehog series in Japan, which begins screening as popular anime shorts before movies.

1930s: Sonic shorts become immensely popular in the United States.

1936: The first feature length Sonic film is released and becomes instantly popular. It is distributed in the US by Disney.

1941-45: With the outbreak of WW2 there is an embargo against all Japanese imports including Sonic The Hedgehog. In Japan he has increasingly become used as a propaganda tool for the Japanese government. In the United States as a result a crude knockoff of Sonic is featured as the villain in American cartoons.

Late 40s-Sonic cartoons are still not avaliable for distribution in the US however they are enjoying a quiet renaissance due to increasing popularity with American servicemen overseas.
