Somewhat unusual AH challenge : Robot combat as big as MMA is now

This sounds monumentally off the wall (yes, I thought of this following seeing some clips on Youtube), but I don't think it's ASB. The challenge is that, with a POD after 1998 (the start of the airing of the UK television series Robot Wars), robot combat (similar to the British TV show) has a similar level of popularity in 2010 to mixed martial arts. Bonus points if it is featured on high profile television networks in three continents.

Give it media attention and controversy, that's the best way to raise awareness of it and make it popular.

Controversy is a challenge, bearing in mind it's robots beating the poo out of each other you can't get injuries. A fight backstage would probably not be ignored by TV (unless someone were to get arrested), and cheating scandals or judging screwjobs are a nightmare. Spectator injuries would get it pulled from television.
