Some other group of Germans launch a coup against Hitler

The Valkyrie conspirators had questionable character, but some were very anti-Nazi and the like. But what if a different group had dispatched the Fuhrer?

What if it was Himmler or Goering? So either the SS, or some other Nazi faction?

What if a White Rose suicide attack dispatches him? I don't think Social Democrats, Communists, or other leftists have any chance of being a movement, much less a coup, but who would take over in that case? Just what power groups are there besides various Party factions and the military?

Unless the Nazi party itself is emasculated in the coup, then I have always believed that a power struggle is going to happen. If it is contentious enough and if the military gets involved it could turn into a civil war. There is no Nazi with the magnetic personality of Hitler, with him dead it could be a free-for-all.

I think the free-for-all is overestimated. The fact is, many of the top Nazis were less committed to the ideology than to power. For example, if Goering had been made the offer by the Army of either taking the top job as a figurehead and taking most of his orders from the generals, or a kugel, he would have taken the former. It was really only the fanatics like Himmler who would have caused alot of trouble and would have needed to be killed. The main issue is whether Himmler (and Heydrich, if he is still alive) escape and link up with loyalist SS units. Then you have a civil war on your hands. If they don't, and simply disappear, then the Army takes over and either cancels whatever crazy scheme Hitler was up to next (Barbarossa most likely) or sues for peace with the Western Allies.
