Socialist Siberia (1983 Doomsday) vs OTL Russian Federation

This is a comparison as to which entity, the ATL Socialist Siberia of 1983 doomsday, or OTL Russia, is better off in the year 2015. This socialist siberia has emerged as the most powerful nation in the Northern Hemisphere, and has some democratic characteristics. Here's a snippet from the wiki page

Through reforms made by Chairman Tuleyev, Soviet politics have been made more democratic and akin to Lenin's designs; a democratic-socialist form of Communism is the dominant ideology. Citizens over the age of 18 freely engage in elections, choosing the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet every 5 years, although the one-party system is still in place.

Citizens have the right to freely gather, the freedom of speech and press, but the KGB still has the right to invade people's privacy so it could gain information on dissidents and the agency's influence on everyday life is quite strong. The propaganda machine is as active as ever, trying to legitimize this invasion of privacy by stating that the government has done wonders in keeping it's citizens safe, which is more than true in the post-nuclear age. The larger cities are crowded and officials give incentives for people to move to smaller cities and villages.

Economically, the country seems to be going pretty strong as well, with plenty of natural resources from Siberia as well as newly annexed Mongolia, Xinjiang, and Manchuria. Read more about Socialist Siberia from the wiki page here. Considering that OTL Russia is slipping into authoritarianism and is rampant with many social problems as well, IS OTL Russia or Socialist Siberia in a better situation overall?

Nuked rump state... Or modern nation that hasn't been nuked with it's industry, economy, cities and population intact and a government which isn't constituent to the whims of the KGB. Which is better? Forgive me if I sound rude but the answer should be obvious...

At least Socialist Siberia is somewhat democratic, compared to Putinist Russia. Although I see your point with the whole population and infrastructure thing. Since the KGB is still running around, that is a bit of a worry, although to be fair, compare the KGB with the NSA and other groups like the Stasi...

In the end, they have their good and bad points when it comes down to it. :)

Why are you inaccurately trying to relate everything to Putin? Is that your schtick?
I didn't realize it until now. I was trying to say that the USSR is attempting to have a social democracy along the lines of what Lenin intended, according to the wiki.

If the elections in Socialist Siberia aren't rigged or anything, which nothing on the wiki seems to suggest, then one should easily be able to make the case it's more democratic than Putin's Russia.

I knew that Putin was really hated, but this is still amazing. A country that has been subjected to a massive nuclear strikes and has lost most of its territory (including its historical core) is somehow comparable to modern Russia?

/sarcasm mode on
Even North Korea is better then putinist Russia.
/sarcasm mode off

Well, that's how modern Russia is viewed mostly even in Russia itself.
Personally I don't believe any democracy would exist in post-nuclear 1983 Syberia, socialist or no. I am not even sure democracy would exist in post-nuclear 1983 US, except maybe in local level.
