So what if most of south-east asian became communist?

The US main reason for engaging in the Vietnam conflict was to halt the potential "domino effect" whereby a communist Vietnam leads to a communist south-east asia as a whole.

But what if that had happened? would that have radically changed the dynamics of the cold-war?

Well, that rather depends on whether it's something like Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand or whether it spreads into some of the island nations such as Taiwan, Indonesia and the Philippines and gets into Malaysia. If it's the former, the situation is manageable. Not great, but manageable. If it's the latter, Malaysia would make the position of Singapore very tenuous. It also isn't great for Australia, which loses its direct air route to Europe via Singapore/India/the Middle East and now has a slew of Communist territory to its north. If the Philippines are threatened? The US intervenes. The whole thing plays havoc with the sea lanes in SE Asia. The South China Sea becomes a Chinese lake if the Philippines fall.
