So its been 20 years since Quebec got its independence

in the 1995 the referendum vote was literally a squeaker 50.1% for independence. So how do you think Canada has done since it happened and Quebec?
 
Well for once there is a lot less linguistic confusion going on.

Surprising how well the frenchies have been able to manage the economy given the only things they have to work with are fish and trees.

The canadian british wanabes could be doing better but at least their standard of living is still reasonably high and the yanks probably arent going to annex them anytime soon.
 
Pretty surprising that Quebec has developed so well, despite that there is still notable minority who support rejoining to Canada.

OOC: I don't see Western provinces secede from Canada if Quebec leaves.
 
The Bay de Chaleur eventually won its bid to join their co-linguists. Despite invitations, most Acadians told Quebec to put their invitations in "places that are not mentioned in church."

After much posturing and fanciful speeches, English-speaking residents of West Island Montreal traded places with franco-phone Ontarians.

All the French-speaking civil servants in Ottawa applied for jobs in Hull. Most of them were forced to "seek employment in other industries."

After an early invasion by the 10th Mountain Division, Quebec re-negotiated free-passage of the Saint Lawrence Seaway. The 10th Mountain Division went home by the end of the year.

After an invasion of James Bay - by the United States Marine Corps - Hydro-Quebec re-negotiated their debts with a variety of New York City-based banks. Meanwhile, Cree and Inuit natives petitioned Ottawa to remain Canadian citizens. Desperate for revenues from Northern Quebec diamond mines, Ottawa issued Canadian passports to thousands of First Nations members. Air Creebec suspended scheduled flights to Montreal, but added extra flights to Manitoba.

Rather than demand re-payment of their share of the national debt, Canada simply imposed punishing export tariffs on goods shipped west out of Quebec. Quebec exports to Great Lakes states slumped.

Meanwhile the Dominion of the Maritime has seen a jump in it's shipping and carribean trade. Good thing they accepted Berumda and Tucks/Cacos offer to join, as they are now one of the centres for Atlantic cruise industry.
