smaller WW1

what if world war one only lasted a few months and involved far fewer casualties.

I think the most likely way this could have happened is if Britain did not have old treaty with Belgium, so it took them longer to find an excuse to join WW1, therefore the Schieflen plan succeeded and France surrendered after the fall of Paris. Russia would probably fight on for a few months. Britain would realise that the allies stood no chance and if they did join at all it would probably be on the side of the central powers, but more likely they would stay neutral similar to america. Russia would probably fight on for a few months, but with out help from Britain they would quickly have their ports blockaded by the Germans and ottomans and without the ability to import food would probably surrender sometime in the first winter due to severe food shortages.

I don't think that the Schliefen plan is likely to succeed either way, nor is Britain going to stand by idly and watch when Germany occupies the Channel coast.

My constructive proposal is: No France first strategy, no Schliefen plan, no violation of Belgian neutrality. Britain doesn't join but instead mediates when France-Russia and Germany-Austria reach a stalemate.
