One of the things that I have read was that the US suddenly cutoff Lend Lease to Britain after WWII. Supposedly this was a major blow to Britain who had not recovered from WWII. Also with the foreign currency reserves basically gone, they could not pay or were limited in paying for needed imports.

What difference economically would it have made if Lend Lease was instead slowly cut back?

I could see a POD of the American government seeing large stockpiles of materials after the war and wanting to avoid these stockpiles depressing the American markets. Instead they keep send Lend Lease supplies to Britain to draw down these stock piles.

Any thoughts?
