Slavery in the North in a Southern Victory

So I had a thought. The Emancipation Proclaimation, as I understand it, only freed the slaves in the Rebel states, i.e. the Confederacy. So of the CSA won the war, that would mean the Border states still had legal slaves, right? And the Republicans would quickly lose power and therefore probably wouldn't pass emancipation. At lesst for a time. How long is that time? Let me know

TBH I suspect that slavery wound end pretty soon in the North, even if the Union had been defeated. Without the Southern states, the main opposition to emancipation would have gone, and abolishing slavery might have seemed tempting as a way of differentiating the north from the South and asserting its moral superiority over the rebels. Maybe if some or all of the border states made credible threats to join the Confederacy, that might put a break on things, but other than that, expect to see Northern emancipation within five to ten years, tops.

If the CSA truly wins, decisively, Kentucky and Missouri probably get incorporated into the CSA. Even if not... 20 of 24 remaining states are free - the amendment abolishing slavery passes easily. It might be followed by a compulsory colonization act. A lot of Northerners disliked slavery because it brought in blacks; sending the relatively few in the remaining USA to Liberia would be popular.

Probably a couple years at most, Maryland, Tennessee, Missouri and West Virginia abolished slavery on their own, leaving only Delaware (barely any slaves) and Kentucky (plus bits and pieces of other southern states) to have slavery abolished by the 13th. Only 18-19 states are needed to pass an amendment (depending on exactly how many states the CSA takes), that can probably be swung fairly quick

I’m sorry to say, New Jersey had retained slavery emancipation had taken place in fits and starts for thirty years.
