Basically I'm wondering what the effects are of a British ban on slavery and slave-trading in it's territories from the onset of the Atlantic slave trade. I'm keenly aware that the slave trade and the industries derived from it (including plantations) helped provide a great deal of revenues for the British government and in many ways effected how Britain's Industrial Revolution came about and also impacted the composition of Britain's new middle and upper class as well as their Parliamentary membership.
While this is of course unlikely to have been pursued seriously or put into genuine effect OTL, I'm curious as to how much this might have negatively or positively impacted the Empire at the time.
