Slave revolt in the south

Imagine John Brown's raid succeeds. Can it spark some form of slave revolt in the southern states? How big can this revolt get?

What are the butterflies?

There's been several slave revolts in the South by the time of John Brown's raid, none successful. At least in the 1800's rebellious slaves were only shot or hung, in the 1600's/1700's they were burnt alive or worse. Also, there were far more whites than blacks in the Antebellum South as opposed to the Caribbean.
