Sino-Soviet Alliance in '33: Plausible?

What it says above, basically. Could an alliance between China and the Soviet Union be formed in 1933, and what would be the consequences of this?

What Zimmer said. But for an ATL it's very plausible to make this alliance tighter and longer and more overt, particularly as an anti-Japanese pact. Make it a more overt mutual defense pact and you could even plausibly have the USSR intervene in the SJ war.

An alliance between Stalin and Chiang would have created nightmares in Tokyo. Since the relations between the USSR and KMT were quite good OTL, it's possible. The Japanese would probably fear they're going to lose Manchuria.

An CLOSER alliance between Stalin and Chiang would have created nightmares in Tokyo.
Fixed it for ya :) IOTL Soviets provided bulk of Chinese air force equipment until 1945, and a good chunk of personnel too (Soviet personnel was under command of Vasily Chikov, he of Stalingrad's fame, one of most capable Soviet generals of WWII, up until 1942). So closer co-operation is definitely possible. And yes, Japanese would have kittens.
