Since today is the anniversary of the first working prototype of the Wankel engine

The Wankel engine was doomed by the oil crisis, unless you could make it be smaller and make more power earlier on.

It's not a good motor for larger cars or trucks because Wankel rotaries inherently lack torque. Best bet is to make the thing the motor of choice for sports cars, or even try to make rotary engined motorcycles.
 
It is the Engine of Choice, for Home Kit Airplanes.
I think the propane/butane Wankel Generators, that substitute for small Batteries, Is where Wankels will have the biggest impact.

Now if whe have Wankels invented 25 years earlier, They would have a tremendous Impart on the development of WW2 Warbirds.
