Simpsons ends after 10 seasons

It may well be true that the last 10 years of The Simpsons falls short of the first 10, but that doesn't mean the series should have been put to sleep. If season 19 had been the first one the world ever saw, people would have raved about it. And to say the Simpsons is a "ripoff" of the Flintstones-- wrong. Hold your hand out so I can slap it with a ruler.

In fact, I have observed that, after episode quality started nose diving in season 10 and reached a terrible low of unfunniness around season 13 or 14, the last two or three seasons have been improved, even if the show will never reach the levels of greatness of its golden age between seasons 3 and 8. Or maybe I am getting desensitized.

Well, the ratings are still good, IIRC, so someone's consuming it. Sooner or later, Fox would bring it back dramatically if they cancelled it--perhaps with the new movie, and then building up new series from that.

The opposite actually, since he's the only sane man...in the entire town.

And that's premise for all of King of the Hill's jokes. Hank is the only rational person in a world gone completely nuts. There's also the fact that KOTH turned the standard sitcom family inside out. Most sitcom familys, such as The Simpsons, work like this:

Smart kids, spaced-out mom, dumb dad.

King of the Hill on the other hand, works like this:

Smart dad, spaced-out kids, dumb mom.

I agree that the Simpsons is well past its prime, but I disagree that ending it in 1999 would have saved Futurama. FOX's dislike of that show was not hidden well, and Futurama's chances of surviving were about as good as Firefly's.

Ironically, some of my favorite Simpsons moments are from the last half of the series: Pinchy the Lobster, Sideshow Bob's attempt to use Bart to kill Krusty, Behind the Laughter, Mr. Burns as ET, Springfield Up, 24 Minutes, most of the Treehouse of Horror episodes, the movie. Maybe thats because I didn't get into the show until around 2001, though most of the episodes on my list are also ones where they ditched the usual format to do something original.

I agree that it tailed off around 10, but the first series was the worst. They were trying to squeeze in too much growing and learning.

Best episiode is the strike one..."Well sit for a while by the old cooling tower, they may have the plant, but we have the power..."
