Shintoist Thailand

There had been a history of ties and contacts between Nippon and Siam. What if a Siamese king makes Shintosism a State religion ? Maybe out of local warrior traditions a Thai Samurai class evolves , maybe with the help of adventurous Japanese Ronins ? Would be interesting to see a Thailand influenced by Japanese culture dominating the Mekong region .

I think this would be pretty much impossible, Shintoism is more of a national mythology then an organized religion with any real ability to be spread via conversion. By the time Japan and Thailand had started to talk to one another Japan had already been long penetrated by Buddhism, in any case.

I think that Shintoism is only Japanese religion, which other nations can't adapt easily. And if someone king of Ayutthaya/Siam/Thailand convert to Shintoism and tries convert rest of nation, he might face much resistance.
