Serbia conquers the Constantinople

It would take quite the Serb wank (which are growing ever so common.) to let them take Konstantinoúpolis and then successfully hold onto it for more than a span of 10+ years.

Serb wanks are common? Regardless, I think it's highly implausible for them to even take Constantinople at all.

I think in order to do this Serbia would need a little bit of a build up which would require someone succeding Dušan who is just as competent. If Serbia actually manages to conquer Constantinople, she may claim the succession of the Byzantine Empire, more or less what the Ottomans did.

As for the Ottomans, if they maintain their expansionist ambitions towards Europe and are able to overwhelm Serbia, I think it would be similar to OTL. I'm no Ottoman expert so I'm not sure.

Not on this forum, but lots of other forms have way past D: levels of Serb nationalism.

An ASB TL about Serbia conquering the entire world would be so triumphant. :D

Perhaps Serbia should also inherit Bosnia as I remember, Elisabeth of Bosnia the mother of Jadwiga was proposed to be married to Dusan's son.

Dušan's heir if competent and able to take Constantinopol will be albe to exercise his distant claim to Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia and Naples.

Bosnia probably, Croatia possibly. Hungary and Naples? Are you high?

Anyway, if Serbia takes Constantinople, they'll probably end up Hellanized to a large extent. I mean, the Ottomans did and they were a different religion and had a substantially larger native population base.

I think you misunderstood Marko's point. A claim to Naples and Hungary the same way a cousin of the Hanover duke may have a claim to the British throne (hanover dynasty), but not the power to truly claim it.

I don't think Serbia taking the Byzantine Empire at this point qualifies as a wank at all

Sure, but then you'd have the Ottomans attack them. They almost conquered the Byzantine Empire in the OTL 1350's, I'm sure it'd be easier for them with a war-wear Serbian army and an already breached Constantinople*. Don't forget the Ottomans soundly defeated the Serbs in 1371 in OTL.

*Provided the Serbs can actually take Constantinople, of course. The Ottomans had already (temporarily) conquered large parts of Thrace during the time period in question, but it took them almost a century to conquer The City as well. Not trying to talk down on the Serbs (second favourite Medieval Balkan state, after Bulgaria :)), but still.

Most Likely the Serbian dynasty will take the mantle of sucessor of Rome instead of the Ottomans. Could it prevent a potential Turkish conquest of the city at a latter date? I am not sure.

You would have to screw the Turks pretty hard, they had a lot of momentum after Manzikert. As for Serbia being able to hold Constantinople, I really don't know. The POD would have to prevent the Turks from getting a foothoold in Europe - which, as I mentioned above, is difficult to do.

Exactly.

King Henry @ Bosnian claim comes from blood connections with the ruling family of Bosnia, the Croatian claim comes from blood connections with the Angevin dynasty on the Hungarian and Napolitan throne. Thus no Serbian Emperor can claim Croatia without claiming Hungary first.

What he can do is to sponsor the Croatian diet to vote on disolving the personal union between Croatia and Hungary and entering a personal union with the Serbian Empire.

The Empire is easy. The City is a lot harder. The Serbians do not have a fleet, and do not have the artillery to batter down the walls.

Doctor Imperialism: Momentum after Manzikert? At this point? No. Any momentum they had from Manzikert was checked by the Komnenoi, this is a second wave surge.

MarshalBraginsky: Which also keeps the Byzantine lands in Anatolia in their hands a little longer, which has some interesting consequences.
