Senator Benjamin Netanyahu (R-MA)

WI Netanyahu remained in the US after Harvard, and became prominent in GOP circles, eventually becoming Senator from Massachusetts or the second Jewish SecState after Kissinger? POD 1975. That would mean a dyed-in-the-wool bleu as Ted Kennedy's colleague...

This is very interesting, and judging by a skim-read of his wikipedia bio somewhat plausible. It was vague on exactly why he decided to return to Israel, though. Does anyone know more?

However, I think he'd have a tough time getting elected to the Senate from Massachusetts. The House might be more plausible if he could find the right district. In the House he'd definitely be a leading advocate for Israel, but I'm not sure that would provide him with a sufficient platform to become SecState. Ambassador to Israel is more plausible.

Actually, I think the most interesting scenario would be for him to be elected Governor of Massachusetts.

A REPUBLICAN Senator from Massachusetts?

A Conservative REPUBLICAN Senator from Massachusetts?

In the 1980s?

What parallel universe would this take place in?

Short of Quantum Mechanics, I don't think so.

OK, so either he moves to New York- where one seat has been held by an out-of-stater continuously since 1964, held by two former Democratic Presidential candidates among others... Or Virginia, as the Emperor's daughter seems to be doing.

A good TL idea, though I am currently working on two projects and have to rework one... Though I think Netanyahu would beat John Kerry. He was the one to introduce Thatcherism apres l'heure to Israel in the 90's, and many never forgave him. The man can give a good policy speech, which is more than I can say for our recent ex-president...

Like others have pointed out, Netanyahu getting elected as a conservative republican in Massachusetts might be a bit implausible. However, that can be averted by simply having him move. On the other hand, we don't really have that much insight on his views on American issues. For one, is he pro-choice? Is he pro-gun control? The list goes on. While he is conservative from an Israeli foreign politics view, how would he look from an American political view?

That would mean a dyed-in-the-wool bleu as Ted Kennedy's colleague...

Please explain to us what a 'bleu' is, and how it has any relevance to American society and politics.

(And didn't the Netanyahu's spend most of their time in America in PA?)
