Secretary Adams?

How might early American history been different if (I think) more centrist-Federalist John Adams rather than radical Federalist Alexander Hamilton had been, along with Thomas Jefferson, President Washington's chief advisor? This would involve Adams not running for office (perhaps deciding to stay on his farm and live out a happy retirement, but ultimately getting roped in to a high cabinet position by George?). For my part I think it would mean more cooperation in Washington's cabinet rather than simply fierce division, and thus perhaps less of a polarization between the Federalists and the Republicans. But it also might have made some import Hamiltonian effects of later years have less of a chance to succeed by altering the American political climate away from extremes and towards a moderate approach between the two main ideologies.
