Seaplanes ahoy! Techwank including seaplanes

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

As a Flying Boat junkie I, sir, salute you. I am wearing my Sikorsky S43 Baby Clipper tie as I type this. :D

Good to see love for the Princess. There may be a continuing role for the Martin Mars as well.

Any hope on civilian seaplanes? Any hope to get the Latcoere 631 actually doing better than OTL? Any hope for resurrecting the Sikorsky S-45 or other superclippers?

Also, don't forget Ekranoplanes, aka Ground Effect Vehicles. Ala the "Caspian Sea Monster" and A-90. They offer a serious strategic advantage for fast sea strike and interdiction, cruising at 400 kph under the radar (well, lost in sea clutter). Ekranoplane missile carriers armed with Sunburns or Silkworms (nuclear or conventional) are BAD NEWS for NATO shipping and strategic defense and will for the sake of the TL create greater allied incentive for seaplanes.

Earlier POD

Find a way to eliminate World War II, and I suspect that planes like the Pan-Am Clipper would continue to thrive. Why build expensive airports? There's no war-inspired glut of planes, or airfields...

I wrote an ASB novella with just such a POD.

Of course the "way to eliminate WWII" involved alien invasion, but hey, Clipperwank all the way.
