Sea of Slander- Hoover master files released

Upon Hoover's death in 1972, Nixon ordered all his master files, namely the 130 on senior politicians, a good deal on Joe and Jack Kennedy among others, secured and brought to the WH. Hoover's secretary had already moved them out, and now they allegedly reside in a WV coal shaft. WI Nixon had gotten those files? Would they be released, and consequences on certain individuals?

I think this topic is a bit pseudo-history-ish, but what the hey, I've contributed to this same WI before on another thread.

An ex-BBC journalist who looked into this subject concluded that if these files weren't destroyed upon Hoover's death then they almost certainly were secured by then CIA director Richard Helms.

And as Nixon said, "Nobody fucks with Dick Helms."

In short, there's not much chance that the CIA would let the president who operated the Plumbers get his hands on the greatest sleaze file that ever existed (or at least was supposed to have existed).

If Nixon should luck out, say by Hunt and Liddy getting their hands on a moving van that Helms' men haven't guarded, then things get very interesting should Watergate still occur...

I fear this subject is too conspiracy oriented.

Let's say Nixon does get his hands on them. I addressed this in Resurrection City, where he appoints a different DCI and puts them in his desk drawer. Of course he made copies and put them upstairs. ;)
