Sea Lion Press: Phase Six

I like how you've branched out into sci-fi a bit here. There are some good stories of that vein on this forum I've been meaning to catch up on.
I do have a lot of sci-fi I would be interested in bringing out. I've always been leery about doing so on the SLP imprint because I didn't want to devalue the AH focus, but OTOH technically much of my sci-fi is AH, it's just that I had already planned the history of the future before 9/11 happened and I decided that I didn't want to change it.

Like I have a fantasy... well if the world happened to have elves and orcs kinda fantasy... stories as well.

I think we all are leery of going away from the focus of sea lion.

However if the interest is there let's throw it out and see if anyone bites.

The sci-fi we've done so far has a clear 'future AH' vibe and I don't plan to go far from that. I think I will maintain a sort of 'I know it when I see it' position rather than implement a hard and fast rule.

This isn't to say that we won't launch Space Lion Press in 2018 if there's serious demand. (Not actually joking.)

Put fishbowl helmet on the sealion in the logo, job done.

(Though I prefer 'Star Lion Press' myself)

This does raise the question as to what they would use for a fantasy imprint?

Sea Dragon Press? It's a long sealion with scales idk

Perhaps.

Of course there is one issue with specifying too much - one series I've just read, which oddly enough is also from a fairly small online publisher with a quirky name, pulls a plot twist because you think it's fantasy but it turns out to be sci-fi.

I simultaneously want to ask for this and to read it without being spoiled. Hmmm.....

Sorry for the necro, but I have a question and I was not sure where else to ask it:

If we come across a timeline that we think would make a good Sea Lion book or short story, how do we suggest it to you all? There are so many wonderful timelines on here that could be published with barely any editing, and it seems a shame that they don't get the chance they deserve.

A few that I think fall into this category are:

https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/to-keep-his-state.426480/

https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/forget-the-alamo.418815/

And of course, any of the ones here:

Get the authors to email me at tom@sealionpress.co.uk

@Meadow, terribly sorry to bother you but I have a question.

While I, and, I hope, everyone else on here, would of course refrain from using SLP's trademark (and probably trademarked) white sealion, is the regular sea lion still available for the broader AH community to use?

@Md139115
Thanks for the kind words about my Forget the Alamo! TL. One of the reasons I didn't reach out to Sealion was I had read that they weren't interested in ASB stories, and as my story's MC had a certain quantum leap characteristic, I didn't think it fit within their wheelhouse. I can tell you that the cost to design a good, genre specific cover and solid editing gets a little expensive, and when you're looking at having to sell a couple of hundred copies of your story to break even (and most authors self publishing on Amazon don't manage that) it would be nice to partner with a publisher who could do some of that heavy lifting.
