Scottish Unionist Party as a major force

in 1986 Scottish Orange Order members angry over Anglo-Irish Agreement formed the Scottish Unionist Party, to date the SUP has been politically very small, so what POD could make the SUP a major force in Scotland?

Just avoid the merger of the UK Conservative Party with the old Scottish Unionist Party. That way the Tories maintain their Scottish identity, can crititise the excesses of Thatcherism and remain a leading force in Scottish politics today.

Is that cheating?

The only way to get the Orange Order seriously into Scottish politics is to go back as far as the twenties when there were sectarian problems in mainstream Scotland(including the Church of Scotland).
