Scenerii for an independant christian Lebanon ?

First of all, i wish you an Happy Christmas and lot of good things to you an your families !

This said, is there some POD that allows the emergence of an independant separate christian Lebanon (where christian would represent at least 80-90% of the population) ?

Thanks by advance for your brilliant thoughts !

I think its been said before on the forum, but its actually a relatively simple thing to do. Just keep the French mandate of Lebanon with the boarders of Mount Lebanon, the Autonomous Ottoman region that preceded it. It would be a smaller Lebanon, but a much more heavily Christian one.

Though it's probably unlikely, had Lebanon remained just Mt. Lebanon plus Beirut, might it have eventually become a French Department? Presumably it would have remained closely tied to France, and might well have remained economically quite dependent on it.

Well, it all depends on how the locals feel about it actually. Many Christian Lebanese emphasize their "Mediterranean" identity more then their Arab identity, and if the French sufficiently bend their idea of what makes a Frenchman, its not hard to see the Maronites going for this.
