Scandanavian Unification

The mid 19th century was when Scandinavianism was at its strongest. Unlike Germany and Italy, who successfully united into single nation states in the mid 19th century, Scandanavia was unable to do so, even though it only required the unification of two states into one nation. Under what pretext could such a union have happened, and what butterflies would have resulted from this?

Countries:
Sweden-Norway
Denmark (and territories)
-Greenland
-Iceland
-Shetland Islands
-Danish India (sold in 1867)
-Danish West Indies (sold in 1917)

Sweden's neutrality policy prevented military alliances and made it somewhat difficult for the countries to collaborate closely enough. I think that, if the Swedes had not pursued such a policy, the Scandinavist movement might have led to closer relations.

Admittedly, though, I know very little about European history in the 1800's, so I am probably missing some other important factors.

Would the Kalmar Union count as a unified Scandinavian state? Otherwise, I can envision a very long PoD for an expanded Scandinavian superstate that includes Russia in it.

Something in 1848 is my best guess. Either Denmark or Sweden loses their monarch and has a succession crisis, and pan-Scandinavian sentiment causes the monarch of the other country to be invited to become King. This arrangement get formalized into a Kingdom of Scandinavia or whatever over the next couple of decades.

Butterflies...if you go with this, the issue of Schleswig-Holstein becomes a very big possible point of departure. A united Scandinavia would be better able to defend its territories against the Austrians and Prussians. Alternately, as a condition of the union being accepted by Prussia, the provinces could be simply given to Prussia or made independent within the German Confederation or something like that. This becomes more likely if the monarch of Scandinavia is Swedish, as they might have less of an attachment to the provinces. Either way could very well stop Prussia's rise in its tracks.

Maybe Prussia crushes Denmark so horribly that it annexes all of Jutland (peninsular Denmark), and the rump state decides that a Dual monarchy of Scandinavia would be the only way to remain secure? That orr Denmark loses the same amount of land as OTL and decides that a Dual monarchy would be good for the same reasons.

Considering that in OTL the King of Denmark was willing to join the German Confederation in exchange for keeping Schleswig, this doesn't seem like as big a stretch.
