Saxons Standing Strong

(So I finally get around to starting my idea for a Saxon victory at Hastings now that midterms are over)

Saxons Stand Strong
Prelude

On October 14th in the year of our Lord 1066 all of Anglo-Saxon England could finally breathe a sigh of relief, William the Bastard duke of Normandy lay dead on the field of Hastings with the rest of his men. His defeat marked the end of all Norman ambition towards England leaving the true heart of Norman ambition in Europe in the hands of the house De Hauteville in Sicily. The Duchy of Normandy is thoroughly expended with most of its working age sons dead.

King Harold Godwinson had faced foreign invasion down twice now and both times firmly crushed it. After the Battle of Hastings Harold is granted the title “The Mighty” by a star struck nobility as he begins what would become one of the most influential periods in English history.

Meanwhile the Pope in Rome has egg in his face, his backer for the throne of England is dead and the new king poised to make his realm even more powerful...

(sorry its short)

You are very unlikely to get Harold being made "Defender of Britannia" by anyone. Harold is King of England, a Kingdom made up of the Anglo-Saxons (and Danes) who came in and conquered the Britons and drove them into Wales. That said Kings of every era generally tend to acquire additional titles but that is a very unlikely, borderline ASB one. Much more likely is a something like Harold Strong Arm or Harold the Mighty.

Okay Ill try to come up with a less problematic title
EDIT: I changed it to the mighty.

Maybe Defender of Britannia is some romantinc sobriquet foisted on him by an analogue to the Victorians ITTL ...

Still, I do like these X & Y swap fates timelines.

As with all Saxons win timelines, the most interesting posts will be the ones after the battle. Is England safe from invasion with Sweyn II having a claim to the throne? What happens to a leaderless Normandy? How does France develop in the absence of strong Normandy? What happens to Wales, Ireland and Scotland in this timeline? I look forward to reading more.

Normandy isn't going to disappear overnight, while a total defeat and death of everyone in the invasion army (by the way very unlikely) would take out a lot of Normandy's military manpower Normandy had certain structural strengths and it's military situation wouldn't that much worse in the short term with the cream of it's manpower dead at Hastings rather than OTL pacifying England.
At a certain level Normandy would actually be strengthened by having it's nobility at home and available to bash France rather than off as absentee landlords living in England.
