Save the Timurids

How, with a POD of 1400 and no earlier, how can the Timurids stay alive. Would it be enough to have them not invade China and create a few vassals from there territroy as well as have a strong heir to the throne? Im not really sure how this would work. Any ideas?

Well, as a matter of fact the Timurids "stayed alive" for astonishingly long time till 1858.
You might try to google for "Mughal Empire".

Need to butterfly the civil wars among the various successors to Timur that sapped the strength of the Timurids and which gave an opening for the rise of the Persian Safavids.

Timur probably insured the ultimate death of his dynasty by dividing his conquests to different family and non-family members. A clear line of recognized succession couldn't have hurt...

Well, if Babur after his success in India decides to turn back and conquer Samarkand and then attack the Safavids...

Bad idea. He needs to consolidate his conquests in India otherwise the moment he heads North, someone is going to march on Delhi.

And with later Mughals, Persia just isn't tempting enough a target.

I was thinking of him getting out with what he can when the Afghani Nobles start bickering about under foot.

Jahangir wanted to mount a very big offensive in Persia; Shah Jahan was to have initially led the invasion, but his rebellion caused the plan to flounder.

Meanwhile, it is possible that Babar leaves India(he had originally invaded under the pretence of toppling the Sultanate in favour of Ibrahim's uncle), but honestly, I doubt he'd be able to take Samarkand for long.
