The birth of new languages, their expansion, splitting into dialects, decadence and death were all occurring in all parts of the world from the ancient times. In the modern age the development in modes of communication and advances in the field of technology have led to the domination of major languages and sidelining of less developed languages. The tendency towards standardization and uniformity is very strong. Hence eventually smaller languages are likely to lose out and only a few major languages are likely to survive.
