Saturday Morning Funhouse

Hey Everybody!! The idea for the following thread is to recognize all of the ATLs that have been created on the forum that are based on the Saturday Morning cartoons of youth. These aren't necessarily based on the most realistic PODs, or even the most consistent. The purpose of these PODs is to have some fun!!

As such, when posting your TLs, please tell the title of the TL and which cartoons inspired the TL:

1) Luciferian Crusade:
Based on G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Venture Brothers, et al.

2) Savage World of Archon :
Based on Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, and Thundarr the Barbarian

Two ideas for proposed ATLs are:

Mystery Machine- Based on the Scooby Doo, franchise, the ATL takes place in a world where an economic collapse has taken place, which may or may not be related to events which have caused an upsurge in the supernatural....

Of Chrome & Steel- Based on Robotech to Transformers, the Cold War world of the 1980s is changed forever with the appearance of dueling alien robotic races, but can they be trusted?

I like both of them and I'll try to be involved in them when I can.

I am surprised that so far, "Mystery Machine" and "Luciferian Crusade" have rld taken off as much as they have, while "Savage World of Archon" and "Of Chrome & Steel" haven't grown as quickly as one would think. Definitely keep up the good work, true believers!

I'm thinking of what could go into a world defined by Warner Brothers "Looney Tunes" and/or MGM Tom and Jerry cartoons, specifically the six-minute episodes that were first shown in movie theaters before the main feature film and later on television, often clumped together for half an hour of programming.

For now, the WB cartoon world includes that defined by Bugs Bunny and associated antagonists such as Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam, and, Coyote and Roadrunner.

The nature of the Acme Corporation --monolithic, wide range of products, lethargic quality control-- speaks of an American industrial sector that is highly protected and/or either in thrall to an unchecked monopoly and/or dominated by a state-owned or state-controlled entity. The latter implies either a socialist government or a fascist regime running the United States of America.

From the Tom and Jerry world as presented, we can perceive a very different line of development with regards to privately-owned weaponry.

In otl, the American household has become synonymous with gun ownership.

In the Tom and Jerry timeline, firearms has been replaced by myriad packagings of explosive material. This includes large quantities of gunpowder, sticks of dynamite of a dazzling range of sizes, and ignition either by a lit fuse or by a hand-operated plunger connected by wire to the explosive material.

One of the more striking implications of this: many of otl's terrorists would, in this tl, receive at best a politely stifled yawn for their efforts.

Another ramification is that the insurance industry of this tl's American economy is quite stifled, and at best, is on the fringes of things.

It is very, very, very difficult to kill a mouse, or a rabbit, or a cat.

For reasons that scientists and public officials are hesitant to get into detail about, the island of Tasmania has never been successfully settled.

Based on the ATLs, all we need now is a ATL that resembles the many superhero cartoons that appeared starting with the 1950s/1960s.

Considering last night's episode of Family Guy, the ATLs are dedicated to SPOILER ALERT:

Brian Griffin, explorer of the multiverse! Somewhere, on an ATL, he still lives!

Long live the fallen hero of the multiverse:

And somehow, through the magic of manipulation of the space-time continuum, Brian Griffin has been resurrected, several days before the Doctor,....

Anyone have some Saturday morning series that should be added?

The Fox Comics thread already has parallels to the X-Men: The Animated among other things. Dell Comics seems to have elements of the old school Hanna-Barbera superheroes and action cartoons like Galaxy Trio. Although I agree with DValdron that we need to throw in some more PODs to give it a more 1960s feel without getting too kitschy/campy...
