Roman legions were crushed multiple times by contemporary forces, often "barbarians", they won't last against an army from 1500 or so years later that is also pretty professional and disciplined. Romans weren't at all the ubermensch people on the internet act like they were.Against Roman legionaries, equipped pre-gunpowder? My money's on the Romans. They trained fanatically, & they had amazing discipline. The manipular legion was better than anything else anywhere for about 2000yr.
