Saddam Hussein Killed In the First Hour of the Iraq War

Just as Bush's deadline for Saddam Hussein and his sons to leave Iraq expired in 2003, airstrikes were ordered to possibly take out Saddam at a location he was rumored to be at inside of Baghdad. They took place and failed to kill the dictator. It has been said by Bush administration officials that if Hussein had been killed in the first hour of the fighting that an invasion would not have been necessary. What could have happened if Saddam and his sons were killed in an airstrike before coalition troops began the ground war?

Resistance might collapse sooner among Baathists- or it could continue and strengthen. Not sure who would be in charge.
Either way, Al-Quaida would expand far beyond their old base in Gulp.

Saddam AND his sons? In that case, there really wouldn't be anyone to take over. The Iraqi military will fall apart as the Coalition advances. The insurgency would be weaker in the early months, but I don't think it would be weaker in the long run.

If Iraq collapses sooner we'll probably never get all those reports from Baghdad Bob/Comical Ali.
