Prior to the Rwandan Genocide, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) and the Rwandan incumbent government reached a power sharing agreement at the Arusha accords where president Habyarimana agree to share power with internal opposition parties and the RPF.

I read a few sources and most of them say 300 RPF soldiers were assigned to the parliament. A few sources say 3,000 (misplaced a decimal point?). The Rwandan president was assassinated and a new government started the genocide. Anyways, on April 8, 1994, FAR forces (the Rwandan military) attacked the parliament building to flush out the isolated RPF fighters, and the attack was brushed off.

Over April and May, the RPF launched a three pronged attacked from their territories to try to take the country, often encountering a disorganized or distracted enemy.

And... what about the isolated RPF fighters in Kigal? Whether 300 or 3,000, they would have easily been overwhelmed by the much larger government forces, even if they seized an ammunition dump. Did those fighters just die? Did the genociders just forget about an armed group that is part of the targeted population sitting in the capital? Did the fighters manage to sneak out of Kigal one night?
