Russo-Japanese War WI

Upon some reading, I have recently learnt about the Anglo-Japanese Alliance of 1902 which basically said that if Russia had an ally against Japan in any conflict, Britain would enter the war as well.

What if Germany or France (both on Russia's side at the time) were to declare war on Japan, and Britain declared war on Russia to honour their agreement? Could we see a First World War ten years earlier? What would accumulate in this event?

Depending on who was victorious (I know next to nothing of the militaries of the nations involved at the time), could we see a Russian controlled Manchuria or Korea? Perhaps more French or German investments in the area?

Thoughts and ideas :)

The WWI is unlikely. It was a long discussion a few years ago in the Russian AH-Board and if I find the link I'll post it here. Use Google translator. I found it translates more or less adequately - atleast understandable.

Thing is, the whole purpose of the British alliance was to prevent 1895 happening again. It was a deterrant, as many alliance were in the 19th and early 20th C. Britain was not confident in Japan's chanced in 1904 and was most unlikley to intervene, and conversely the continental powers thought the Russians could handle the situation and didn't have enough interest in northeast China to find it worthwhile getting militarily entangled. We'd need some drastic change to motivate any other European power to get involved.

We'll need to combine Dogger Bank incident with something else - with another POD (which makes the alternation unlikely). Germany has no official alliance with Russia (but Germany did seriously help Russia during that war), and France is officially allied with Russia. Britain needs extremely serious reasons to declare war on Russia because by means of Treaty with Japan they simply secure their communications in the Far East and don't want any complicaions.

Well at the time, Britain and Russia had conflicting interests in Afghanistan (being part of the Great Game years earlier). Maybe the Russians stir up trouble there, loosening Britain's grip and causing huge problems in India as well.

But do the Russians need that? Neither they nor the Brits want to be engaged in war between each other.
