Russian Mormonism analogue, or at least a stronger period of "mystery cults"?

So Russia's had sporadic cults and spiritual movements pop up throughout it's history, just like the US has, right? Self-declared messiahs, would-be prophets, and all that. A lot of the same themes of the United State's "Great Awakening", it seems. And in the Great Awakening, Mormonism popped up.

So I'm wondering, What conditions could lead to a Russian analogue to Mormonism, or at least a greater amount of somewhat underground religious groups, roughly akin to the Great Awakening?

What influence would Russian culture have on these movements?

EDIT: And no, you can't have Rasputin be the leader of one of these groups. That's cheating.
