Russian Confederation

You might want to explain further what kind of Russia are you expecting, because a Russian Confederation can be as simple as a name change with otherwise identical developments as per OTL.

States can leave at their own free will, which will be a big difference. This means any state that becomes dissatisfied with the Government can, at any moment, decide to leave. And knowing what happened to Russia in the 90's, this kind of change is important.

How it could happen? Russia has always been pretty centralised and many areas, even most of autonomous republics, are pretty russified. So I don't see why central government would take that kind of step.

It's not hard. The whites when the won would fight civil war but the more idiotic ones would die out like Kornilov and a series of regional leaders would take over and incorporate independent leaders, conquering others

I intentionally want it broad, because a confederated Russia has many possibilities after a USSR collapse. But I will say that the Central Asian, Baltic, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan states are totally independent as in otl. However, I feel that Belarus would like to stay with Russia, considering how close of allies that they are.

I think it would be interesting to think if Chechnya would be allowed a Confederate State hood or if this would strengthen or weaken the economy. Or even if the current conflict in the Ukraine would happen. Better yet, would Putin have as much power as he does today?

And if all the states in Russia would vote to go to war with Georgia if the August 2008 ethnic cleansing of South Ossetia happened, or if they would just allow it to happen.

And this could also be ASB, but Lali has appoint. Russia has always been centralized. I don't know in depth detail to come up with a reason as to why such a change.
