The Ottoman thread had me thinking about various points in history when Russia could have collapsed. We did have this in 1917 obviously but how about a point in time between Peter the Great and 1900? Great Northern War? Pugachev's revolt? 1812?

I will focus on the Crimean War. The war is such a strain and is so unpopular that in 1855 there are mutinies in the army, unrest in the cities, a peasant revolt in the Ukraine and separatist uprisings from Finland to the Caucasus.

Sweden intervenes in Finland, Estonia and Latvia. A joint Austro-Prussian intervention aims to restore order in Poland. The Ottomans advance into the Caucasus.
